KIRIBATI CENSUS ATLAS

Undertaking a Census of Population and Housing is a massive task for every Pacific National Statistics Office. It requires preparation, planning and logistical challenges especially when remote islands are involved. During November 2020, the Kiribati NSO successfully enumerated their census visiting every household across the country using Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) tools supported by SPC Statistics for Development Division.

The vast amount of census data generated is vital to support evidenced based decision making across many sectors and is utilised by a variety of stakeholders. A number of reports and monographs are generated from every census. The Kiribati Census Atlas presents data in the format of statistical maps along with charts, photos and narrative for a range of topics such as: demographics, urbanisation, religion, disability, education, employment, housing structures, energy use, waste management, water and sanitation. The atlas highlights the spatial variation of these topics across villages, islands and divisions in Kiribati providing insights into social and economic development and progress towards the SDGs.
