Navigating their way through the ocean channel using SPC Ocean Science information
The Pacific Community Centre of Ocean Science, known as PCCOS, is a new centre of excellence in Ocean Science that draws together all of the technical and scientific work done across SPC to better coordinate and communicate this information to and with our members.
At this year’s CRGA some of the PCCOS team got interactive and showcased how some of the layers of science and better coordination of this better supports our members through a game.
PCCOS draws upon three divisions undertaking detailed Ocean Science work namely the Geoscience, Energy and Maritime Division (GEM); the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Programme (CCES); and the Fisheries, Aquaculture Marine Ecosystems Division (FAME). This centre takes the already deep work being done across SPC and ensures more effective coordination so decisions can be made understanding the full picture including areas like integrated coastal management, pelagic fisheries and the impact of sea surface temperatures and increased disaster risk.
