Coral reefs are among the planet’s most diverse and valuable ecosystems and provide a key source of food and livelihoods for people across the Pacific Islands region.

With recent models suggesting that extreme El Niño events are likely to become more frequent under climate change, an increase of coral bleaching events is expected in the future. However, several strategies can help limit their effects.
