“For a multi-ethnic working environment like SPC, it is challenging to satisfy or overcome cultural influences, particularly those that do not promote women’s empowerment. However, we could create a ‘common culture’ in our workplace that actively promotes gender equity rather than just masking the situation – like constantly trying to push for women’s empowerment in the workplace that normally does not overwrite certain deep rooted cultural norms that are embedded within individuals that are still influential. So, colleagues could put on the common culture hat whenever in the workplace, which in time may unconsciously influence the rest of the world!” – Mani Mua, Plant Health Field Coordinator, Land Resources Division, SPC
