What is coral bleaching?
When corals expel the zooxanthellae algae that is living inside it, turning it white exposing its transparent skeleton.
This is the result of warmer water temperatures, exacerbated by climate change.
Between 2014-2017 around 75% of the world’s tropical corals experience heat-stress triggering severe bleaching, while 30% died.
