Warm Pacific Greetings and welcome to the 14th Conference of the Pacific Community.
It is an honour to gather here today under the banner of our highest governing body, united in purpose and spirit. I extend heartfelt thanks to our gracious hosts for the beautiful opening ceremony and the warmth of Tongan hospitality that has embraced us all.
The theme for Conference: Pasifiki: Rooted in Heritage, Honouring the Past, United for a Resilient Future, reminds us of the strength we draw from our shared history and the responsibility we carry for the future. It also invites us to reflect deeply and act boldly as we chart the course towards a resilient future for our people.
In the face of global uncertainty and disruption, our strength lies in our unwavering commitment to partnership. We have stood alongside one another—across time zones, disciplines, and borders—driven by a shared purpose and a collective vision for a sustainable future.
The support of our members remains our foundation. Your insights, presence, and leadership continue to shape our path. And as we look ahead, thought leadership—grounded in Pacific values and global relevance—will be more critical than ever.
As this is my last Conference please indulge me to share a personal reflection of my 6 years of service – for example - leadership has been defined by a clear strategic vision that positioned SPC as a central actor in regional development, climate resilience, and governance; supported the integration of climate, gender, and digital priorities into SPC’s business systems and reporting structures.
Let us approach this day with open hearts, clear minds, and a steadfast commitment to collaboration. Together, we will shape the Pacific we envision—resilient, inclusive, and thriving.
