Forests and trees keep the soil healthy, the water clean and provide shelter, food and breeding grounds for many animals. They are also critical to fight climate change by storing carbon and removing it from the atmosphere.
In the Pacific region, forests have the potential to help us make a difference in responding to current and future climatic, social, health and environmental issues. Multiple initiatives are being developed to promote participatory and collaborative approaches for forest management, and recommendations for public policies related to the integrated management of forest resources and the development of agroforestry.
