Pacific Community (SPC) appoints Mr. Miles Young as new Director of Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT)

The Pacific Community is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Miles Young as the Director of Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT), at the Pacific Community (SPC). His appointment will formally take effect on 28 March 2018.

Mr. Young, born and raised in Fiji, is an Australian qualified lawyer with over 20 years of professional experience as a legal development practitioner and a private legal practitioner across the Pacific, Asia and Africa. He holds a Master’s of International Law from University of Sydney.

“I am extremely excited about joining RRRT SPC and look forward to working with SPC member states to achieve their development goals for the region” says Mr. Young who joins SPC following his most recent roles as Senior Project Officer with the Office of Equity & Diversity at Western Sydney University in Australia, and Regional Legal Consultant for the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO). His prior experience also includes Deputy Director of the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Justice Program in Indonesia, General Manager and Company Secretary of International Christian Aid Relief Enterprises Limited (ICARE), and 9 years with the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Australia as Program Legal Counsel and in IDLO Headquarters in Italy as Head of the Field Programs Unit.

Mr. Young has worked on a wide range of substantive areas including access to justice and legal aid, legal and economic empowerment of communities, women’s rights and gender equality, constitution-making, judicial administration, human rights, international trade law, education, and agriculture (biosecurity and pesticides). He has designed, managed, implemented, and secured funding for complex and sensitive international development programs, projects and other activities in rule of law, social justice and education.

The Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT) of the Pacific Community (SPC) was established in 1995 and has been a pioneer in providing human rights capacity building, research, policy, legal and technical assistance in the Pacific region. RRRT’s mission is to advance human rights and good governance standards for the sustainable and equitable development of the region and the benefit of all Pacific people. Mr. Young’s background and skills will position him well as he assumes the leadership of this important function at SPC.

Mr. Young will be based at SPC’s Regional Office in Suva, Fiji.
