  • All protocols observed

Good morning to you all and welcome to the 13th Conference of the Pacific Community

Honourable delegates, welcome to the first day of Conference, and the final day of our gathering in house of the Pacific. I sincerely hope that that despite our busy schedule over the past few days, you had also enjoyed yourselves. We certainly enjoyed having you around and this campus feels more vibrant with your presence.

I would like to emphasize a point that I raised during the commencement of the CRGA meeting. Meetings such as these hold immense significance, not only for the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) but for all of us within this organization. I speak on behalf of every member of our staff when I express our sincere appreciation for your unwavering commitment to open and constructive dialogue.

Over the past few days, your esteemed officials have engaged in robust and productive discussions, and we are deeply thankful for the valuable guidance and insights that have emerged from these deliberations. This week we will focus on ensuring that your voice is paramount with displays of jointly owned and led work and practical solutions that will hopefully guide you as decision makers and unlock access to the information you need to make the decisions that you have to in a modern world.

Today, we will delve deeper into the central theme of the conference: the nexus of climate change. This presents a unique opportunity for us to gain a deeper understanding of the subject, and we look forward to hearing from experts and stakeholders on this critical issue.

Again I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Tuvalu for assuming the Chairmanship 13th of the Pacific Community, and I also acknowledge New Caledonia Tonga, who has assumed the role of Vice-Chair.

It is my pleasure to warmly welcome Hon. Panapasi Nelesone, Minister of Justice, Communication and Foreign Affairs as Chair.
